Power of Three: London Wine Week’s Hubs Unveiled

Started On :: 21/05/2014 - Ended On :: 21/06/2014

London Wine Week – a huge seven-day celebration of the capital's emerging and passionate wine scene – is almost upon us and it’s time you started planning your schedule as there is a LOT to fit in.

To be part of the self-guided Wine Tours and enjoy £5 flights or glasses of premium wine in more than 130 of the capital’s best bars and restaurants, you’ll need a £10 wristband – on sale now and available for collection or purchase from any of the three London Wine Week Hubs once the week begins on 2 June 2014.

But the Hubs are more than just a wristband collection point; they’ll be a hive of activity all week, so be sure to put aside three evenings and visit them all. From there you can go on to frequent the venues in the surrounding area, with the help of the specially created guidebook, which maps out all the bars and restaurants taking part.

The Riedel Hub at Kingly Court, Carnaby, Mo-Sa 12pm-9pm, Su 12pm-5pm

You’ll find The Riedel Hub at Kingly Court on the first floor overlooking the bustling courtyard. Once you’ve picked up your wristband, why not stay for a drink? It’s a pop-up bar with a twist – order by the glassware, rather than the wine, and get the chance to experience how glass size and shape can affect the flavour of the grapes. The Riedel team will be on hand to run spontaneous tutored tasting sessions, and if you guess the number of corks in the Champagne cooler, you’ll win £500 worth of its brand new range – Veritas by Riedel.

Just next door is the Wine Workshop, hosted by the fresh young faces of London’s up-and-coming wine scene. With both drop-in and ticketed sessions covering everything from liquid lunches to late-night learnings, there’s something to suit every pocket and preference. No spittoons allowed!

The Wine Shop Hub at Harvey Nichols, Knightsbridge,Mo-Sa 10am-8pm, Sun 12pm-6pm

As well as enjoying 20% off selected wines all week, wristband wearers can expect plenty of informative and entertaining events at The Wine Shop Hub at Harvey Nichols, enough to keep even the most dedicated wine lover happy. Create a truly original gift or liven up your own wine collection by designing your very own bespoke wine label, relabelling any of the Harvey Nichols Own Label bottles, which will also be available to taste and learn about at the dedicated tasting stations. There’s a taster flight of three Own Label wines paired with first-rate food at Season at the Fifth Floor Restaurant, plus a schedule of ticketed events to attend, and if all that has you needing a moment of relaxation, bask in the sunshine on the Cloudy Bay Chelsea Garden Terrace at the Fifth Floor Café, while sipping on a glass of chilled white and reclining amid the London rooftops.

For some Spanish flair, head to The Wines from Rioja Hub at Laithwaite’s. Here you can collect your wristband and enjoy a whistle-stop taste of the region's highlights, or even a full evening of Rioja with the experts.

The Wines From Rioja Hub at Laithwaite's, Borough Market, Mo-Sa 10am-7.30pm, Su 12pm-6pm

An exciting line-up of activity throughout the week will engage your taste buds in all things Rioja, with each day shining a light on a different element of this diverse wine-producing region. With daily themes ranging from ‘Rioja doesn’t have to be red!’ to ‘What makes a Rioja Gran Reserva’, you’ll be want to come back every day. And if that whets your appetite, for an in-depth look at the Rioja region, don’t miss the Wines from Rioja discovery masterclasses on Tuesday 03 and Thursday 05 June, hosted by Master of Wine Sarah Jane Evans. You’ll taste a variety of Rioja wines, with authentic and delicious tapas served alongside.

To top it off, Laithwaite’s will be offering all visitors to The Arch 20% off its extensive range of Rioja wines throughout the week – with over 60 wines to pick from, you’re bound to find a Rioja you love.

Alongside the Wine Tours and London Wine Week Hubs, there are more than 50 free or ticketed events happening during the week – from parties to pop-ups, masterclasses to make-your-own, the full event schedule is available on londonwineweek.com and for regular updates follow @LDNwineweek.
