Debut UK shows for soul legend showcasing Grammy Award nominated tracks from recent album “Betty Wright: The Movie” - produced by The Roots.

Mean Fiddler presents Betty Wright at HMV Ritz in Manchester 10th July and Jazz Café in London 11th, 12th and 13th July.

Betty Wright is as synonymous with the sound of soul music as she is with soul’s post-rap landscape. From the ‘70s production template of rich orchestration framing full bodied vocals that impart as much wit as they do emotional perception, Betty is also revered within the post-rap hip-hop soul & nu classic soul sub genres - the beat from her wronged woman anthem “Clean Up Woman was famously sampled on Mary J. Blige’s break-out hit “Real Love”, while her ‘been there, don’t you dare do that!’ hits inspired singers with depth of purpose like Angie StoneErykah Badu and Jill Scott. As co-producer and mentor on Joss Stone's multi-platinum and Grammy Award nominated albums “The Soul Sessions and “Mind, Body & Soul  Betty Wright continued her profound influence on soul music's legacy.

It’s apt that Betty’s live UK debut performances coincide with the release of her latest album, “Betty Wright: The Movie (featuring collaborations with Snoop Dogg, Joss Stone, Lil Wayne and Lenny Williams) since it was co-produced by The Roots – rap music’s premier live band. For live is where Betty comes to life, summoning up not just that powerful, knowing voice, but its ability to relay the absurdity, joy, pain and contentment and dysfunction that relationships provide. By turns authoritative, consoling, chastising and simply beautiful, Betty’s vocals and funk-infused soul productions are something to behold. And we finally can.

The Grammy Award winner, whether in the guise of producer and mentor (Joss Stone), vocal coach (Lil Wayne, Gloria Estefan), or collaborator (Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Angie Stone), has remained a pertinent vocal force within black music and she finally(!) brings her wisdom and those vocals to the UK in July.
