Betty Wright, the Grammy Award-winning soul legend owning an incredible six-octave vocal range, a signature whistle register and a back catalogue of anthemic soul classics including ‘1970s hits “Clean Up Woman” and “Tonight is The Night” finally graces British shores for long-overdue live shows at Manchester’s formidable HMV Ritz on July 10th and London’s prestigious Jazz Café on July 11th, 12th, 13th.

It’s hard to believe that Betty Wright has been releasing albums since 1968. But she has and since then her voice and musical productions have left an indelible mark on soul music. Betty solidified her place in our affections and record collections with such hits as “Girls Can't Do What The Guys Do” (1968), “Clean Up Woman” (1972), “Tonight is The Night” (1978), "No Pain, No Gain" (1988) while setting the seal of the ‘70s production template: richly orchestrated, emotionally informed lyricism relayed by full-bodied vocals.

November 2011 saw the release of “Betty Wright: The Movie” an album by Betty Wright and hip-hop’s premier live band The Roots, co-produced by Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson. In addition to the creative affinity found working with Questlove of The Roots, Betty worked once again with songwriter and producer Angelo Morris and featured emcees Snoop Dogg and Lil Wayne creating material that reconfirmed Betty’s musical adaptability and boundless enthusiasm:

I am blessed to have friends that show up and show out on these tracks! From Snoop to Lil Wayne to (Tower of Power’s) Lenny Williams and Joss Stone. I think we weaved a well-made lattice throughout the grooves of this album. I feel like Ice-Cube, just wakin' up in the morning…' gotta Thank God!”
