 CAMEO

Legendary funk group to perform exclusive live shows at the Jazz Cafe in October

Funk group Cameo will be making a highly-anticipated return to the UK this autumn with a rare series of intimate gigs at the Jazz Cafe. Led by the charismatic Larry Blackmon, the chart-topping band are considered to be pioneers of their era and will be performing what could be their only shows at the prestigious Camden venue.

Cameo first formed in 1974 as New York City Players, before later adopting the name Cameo and developing a more electronic sound by 1983.  A few years later, this new direction led to landmark hits such as Word Up, Single Life and Candy, all brilliant offerings which have been honoured in everything from movie soundtracks, pop covers and hip-hop samples, to video games, wedding playlists and weekend karaoke, a further testament to their legendary status. With 17 million albums sold, they remain one of the most innovative outfits of our time – and their performances today are nothing short of exhilarating.  Delivered with plenty of high energy, their timeless classics will make you dance, sing and reminisce on a bygone era, thanks to their timeless sound and a legacy that continues to live on.

THE SOS BAND

Following Cameo's five-night stint on October 22-26th comes the return of another veteran group who were doing for R&B what Cameo were achieving for funk in the 80s – creating distinctive pop songs that would effortlessly smash the charts and remain unforgettable.  Based in Atlanta and fronted by the talented Mary Davis, they went double-platinum with their first single Take Your Time (Do It Right) in 1980, before teaming up with the infamous Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis to score a major hit with Just Be Good To Me in 1983. Follow-up hits included Tell Me If You Still Care and No One’s Gonna Love You – and since their acclaim, they have been covered and sampled by the likes of Fat Boy Slim’s Beats International, the late Tupac Shakur, Maxwell, Mariah Carey, Janet Jackson and recently revived by Lily Allen and Professor Green. They follow Cameo’s five-day stint on October 22-26th with three nights on October 31st, November 1st and November 2nd, where they will perform their soul hits and live up to their reputation for putting on outstanding live shows.
